Signs Point to Yes by Sandy Hall

Synopsis:

Jane, a superstitious fangirl, takes an anonymous babysitting job to avoid an unpaid internship with her college-obsessed mom. The only problem? She's babysitting the siblings of her childhood friend and new crush, Teo.
Teo doesn't dislike Jane, but his best friend Ravi hates her, and is determined to keep them apart. So Teo's pretty sure his plans for a peaceful summer are shot. His only hope is that his intermittent search for his birth father will finally pan out and he'll find a new, less awkward home. Meanwhile, at Jane's house, her sister Margo wants to come out as bisexual, but she's terrified of how her parents will react.
In a summer filled with secrets and questions, even Jane's Magic 8 ball can't give them clear answers, but Signs Point to Yes.

My Rate: 3 Stars

Review:

I LOVE contemporary romance's a lot. And that is exactly what this book is, however I felt that this book was not very realistic. For some people it could be, but I did not feel that for a majority of people it was realistic. For that reason I'm giving this three stars.
When I read a contemporary romance I want to feel like I could be that character. But I didn't feel that I could be Jane. Throughout the book I laughed more than I probably should have and I felt like I understood the characters. To a certain point I felt like I could relate to the Teo, Jane and Ravi as well as Teo's little sisters. BUT it was super cheesy and again certain parts for me were not what I was looking for in that book.
Overall I enjoyed "Signs Point to Yes" by Sandy Hall. I would recommend that you read this book at least once. I also recommend "A Little Something Different" by Sandy Hall as well. I enjoyed that one more than this one. If you liked "The Fault in Our Stars" you will also enjoy these books. Sandy Hall writes adorable and hilarious books! Try one of her books ASAP! I hope you enjoy them.

Book or Movie?

Normally I pick book over movie, however I think that it depends on the book and how well the adaptation to screen is done. I think the only movie I might possibly choose over the book is The Fault in Our Stars. I don't know what it is about it that I love, I just do. Maybe Ansel Elgort is the reason I love it so much. I don't know.
Anywho, we all know books are awesome. Movies are also amazing in their own way. I think separating the book from the movie helps me to really love the movie. Now I don't love the movies as much as I love the books, but I think they come close.
As the internal debate continues let us read on!

Happy Belated Christmas and New Year!!

Book friends I am sorry to have been gone for so long!! My life has been full of weddings (not mine), babysitting little children, and cramming for my semester finals. All of this is done for now. I am always babysitting, but not so crazy anymore! But enough about me, let's talk books.

**********************************************************************

Christmas time is a time for books. I didn't get to read anything over my Christmas break, but I got six books. I finally own all of the Hunger Games books. I have read all three of them and own them all in kindle form. However, now I own them all physically which is better than kindle form.
             The books I received are:
  1.  The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
  2. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
  3. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen
  4. Matched by Ally Condie
  5. Atlantia by Ally Condie
  6. The first book in the Beyonders series by Brandon Mull

There is another one, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. Anyhow I am excited to take on the challenge of reading the more in one year than I have ever read! May 2016 bring great books into your life and I hope you are able to read as much as possible!!

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

First of all, Morgan Matson is sweet and amazing. One thing I hadn't known before I picked this book up was that the main character's name is Emily. Awesome right?!?! Well when I met Morgan she asked me what my name was. I said Emily because my name and she proclaimed, "I LOVE THAT NAME!!" Which I could've guessed because my name is the character.

             So that's Morgan!

Rate: 5/5 Stars

Since You've Been Gone- Sloane has gone missing, but she left Emily a list of thirteen things to do. These thirteen things are things that Emily would never think of doing. She could not have completed the list alone. Never would she have thought that with the help of Frank, she would finally finish a list that Sloane gave her.

The beginning is a little slow, but that does not stop this book from blowing me away. Emily becomes friends with Frank, but not because she really wanted to. She kept running into Frank and his friend Collins. He helps her when she almost gets herself arrested for theft and he arranges for her to get some of the items on her list crossed off. They have a fun relationship, I think. He wants her help to learn how to run. Basically he wants to get fit and she is just the person to do it. They show each other different types of music. They make each other better people.

Frank is at the top of his class. He goes to Princeton every summer except this summer. His girlfriend goes to Princeton without him and so he finds himself with a summer job instead.

Can he help Emily complete the list Sloane gave her? Will they find Sloane? Will this also be one of your favorite books like it is mine? All you have to do is pick up this book and read it. Don't stop reading once you start it. You won't regret it!

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

Before I read this book, I had only heard great things. I was so excited to read this book! I knew that it was about a boy who is friends with a girl who has cancer. On the front of my book it says it is similar to the Fault in our Stars. SO I got the book at the Texas Teen Book Festival held in Austin and had it signed by Jesse Andrews! Great day I would add. Here's the picture of me with him:

My rating: 1/5 Stars

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is about a boy named Greg and his best friend Earl along with a dying girl named Rachel. The ONLY reason that Greg begins to talk to Rachel is because his mother forces him to talk to her. She find out she has cancer and for some reason thinks that he is still friends with Rachel. Thus begins the renewed friendship of Rachel and Greg and a new friendship between Earl and Rachel.

I actually really appreciate Rachel and Earl, however the amount of foul language in this book is ridiculous. It would have been a better book without it. I was appalled by it. It may be that those words are in fact used by many in our world today on a usual basis, but for me I couldn't stand it. You could take all those words out and the book would probably be about fifty pages shorter. This is probably only a slight exaggeration of the foul language.

Then there's the fact that I didn't really understand the entire purpose of the book. It could have been written in less than ten pages and it might have been a whole lot better. Right from the beginning you know Rachel is going to die. He comes right out and tells you. Whether or not he tells you, it's pretty obvious someone is going to die. This book was expanded two hundred and eighty-five pages more than it should have been.

Overall I did not like this book. I really wanted to, but I couldn't get into it. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone. Personally I wouldn't want my sister or anyone else I know to have to read the amount of awful language in there along with many comments and jokes that were very inappropriate. I'm sure many can handle it. I guess I'm just not one of them.

Don't Fail Me Now by Una LaMarche

Five kids travel across the country to California from Baltimore by themselves. They don't tell their parents where they are going. I know that a lot of what they are doing is illegal, but this adventure that they are trying to pull of is bigger than not trying to get caught by the law. The relationships between these five kids may start off really crappy, but I think that LaMarche does a great job at expressing what's really important. Family is important. Living is important. Knowing where you really came from is important, but knowing that you can overcome the challenges of where you came from means so much more.

RATING: 5/5 Stars

One of the only things that bother me with this book is that Michelle, the oldest and also this book is from her point of view, is racist. She is downright racist and it bothers me to think that with freedom growing everyday she could still be so racist. BUT in the end her racism is not bad enough that it ruins the book. It just comes to show that when you constantly see problems dealing with racism it starts to grow on you. It is real and in the world.

I highly encourage you to read this book. I love this book. It's a great reminder to not take things for granted and to appreciate the things that I have. I hope you pick up your copy of the book and let me know what you think of it!

Top Ten YA Books

Hi there again, friend!! I want you to get to know me a little better, so I thought I would share with you my ten favorite YA books. Please comment yours as well. I'd love to hear what some of your favorites are!! Mine can be listed as:

  1. The Selection by Kiera Cass (The whole series, of course!)
  2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Also the whole series because I don't know how you can't love the whole series...)
  3. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
  4. Bruiser by Neal Shusterman (This one is kind of sad, but when I read it a couple years ago I loved it. It was probably the best thing I read that year other than The Selection.)
  5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  6. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
  7. Reawakened by Colleen Houck (Interesting fact about this book is that it is signed. But when I met her I didn't realize who she was. I just knew she was an author. I didn't know I would come to love this book.)
  8. Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver (The end is the most shocking ending I have read in a while. I had a HUGE book hangover with this one...)
  9. Legend by Marie Lu
  10. If I Stay by Gayle Foreman (Wayyyyy better than the movie. The movie focuses on Mia's relationship with her boyfriend, Adam, whereas the book focuses more on her family.)

Now that you know my favorite books, you should leave a comment with your favorites as well. If you haven't read some of these I HIGHLY encourage you read them. They are all amazing, otherwise I wouldn't have included them in this week's Top Ten Tuesday posts. Let me know what YOU think of these books I have listed.

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

            Where should I begin??

This book is kind of crazy. Nick and Dara are sisters. BUT then Dara and Parker, Nick's best friend, kiss and Parker and Nick are no longer friends. Parker and Dara break up, then get back together multiple times. Next, Dara and Nick aren't talking. They get in a car crash. Then, Madeline Snow goes missing. If that's not strange enough for their little town, it get's stranger when Dara goes missing. Of course Nick is going to try to find her when she realized that this is not a joke. Dara really went missing and Nick needed to find her.

Dara and Nick have a relationship that can be quite surprising. They used to do everything together and they knew their boundaries when it came to each other's friends. But when they stopped talking they were resentful like any normal sisters would be. I will give props though to Nick for trying to help her sister out. Well it's more like not rat her out... Personally I believe that the relationships that present themselves in this book are complex and although I can't relate to most o them, I know in this modern world, there are a lot of people who would be able to relate both to the relationships and to the characters. I can feel myself relate most with Nick. She's the "good" daughter. She tries to not do anything to crazy and to live up to other's expectations. On the other hand, Dara doesn't care what anyone thinks about her. She is the wild child. She will try everything. It doesn't matter what it is.

\            RATE: 4/5

I almost gave this book a 5/5, but when I think about the unnecessary cussing, and I feel that some topics were more adult than that which should be included in YA, I felt that giving it a 5/5 didn't feel right. The twist at the end was probably one of the best twists I have ever read. This book is seriously so AMAZING.

            Age Appropriate for: 14+

You can get this book on Amazon, book depository (you can find a link for the book depository on the right side of my page), the book outlet, half price books, or wherever else you like to by your books from. Please check it out and let me know what you think!

Waiting on Wednesday!

For those who don't know what the selection is, it is... Well... Here is the synopsis of the first book:

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

If you refer back to my first post, then you will be able to see my love for not only this book, but for the series as a whole. I will admit that at times it is trying, but the end of each book is AMAZING and worth it every time I read the series.
About a year and a half ago, after Kiera Cass had come to the conclusion of the third and final book, Kiera announced that she was going to continue this series. It is no longer part of a trilogy. The Selection will be a five book series. (What do you call a five book series? A Pentology maybe?)
The next two books in the Selection series follows Eadlyn as she begins the next Selection. This time it is a reverse selection. Instead of a prince chooses his princess, a princess gets to choose her prince. We get an all new perspective with all new characters just as interesting as the last!
The fourth book came out in May, so I'm dedicating my Waiting on Wednesday book to... The next, and the final, book in the Selection series!! Sadly, it is unnamed currently, but I cannot wait for it to come out. We have roughly nine months until the next one! If you want to check out Kiera's website and see waht she is up to click here!

How We Fall by Kate Brauning

Rate: 2/5 Stars

This book is about a girl whose friend has gone missing. This girl was so caught up in the "relationship" she had with her cousin to keep in contact with her friend. Her relationship with her cousin, who is as close to her as her brother, is basically just them hooking up with each other.
I honestly don't know if I am going to finish this book. The idea of her hooking up with her cousin absolutely disgusts me for some reason and makes me highly uncomfortable. I wouldn't suggest this book. This is the worst book I have read all year. The mystery part is very small and the book focuses more on the relationship the cousins have. Rather than actually care about her friend, she decides to put more into a relationship that shouldn't exist as more than cousins.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Synopsis:

A sumptuous and epically told love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi’s wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.

My rate: 5/5!!!

Review:

Honestly I was intrigued from the beginning, but I wasn't so sure about how it would turn out. For one, I can't even pronounce any of the names. And Shazi falls in love with a murderer. That sounds a little crazy and it is, but it's a very interesting, not bad kind of crazy. The beginning is a little slow, but I never once wanted to put it down. It had me from the first page until the last.
What happens when the boy who has loved her wants to set her free from the very place she never believed she would actually call home? What happens when Khalid can't keep Shazi safe? Will that ever happen? Will Shazi's childhood love get her away from her murdering husband? Guess you'll just have to read this AMAZING book to find out. I can't express to you how great this book is. You NEED to read it to find out for yourself! You can find it in almost any bookstore or you can order it from Amazon. Get it today!!!

Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo

This is the series that really got me into reading. I read this series about 6 years ago. It's kind of similar to Harry Potter, but to me it was the best thing I had ever read. Since then I have been an avid reader.

What started it all for you?

Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly

Pages: 301

Audience: 12 and up

Synopsis:

When Philip Digby first shows up on her doorstep, Zoe Webster is not impressed. He's rude and he treats her like a book he's already read and knows the ending to. But before she knows it, Digby--annoying, brilliant and somehow attractive?--has dragged her into a series of hilarious and dangerous situations all related to an investigation into the kidnapping of a local teenage girl. A kidnapping that may be connected to the tragic disappearance of his own sister eight years ago.             When it comes to Digby, Zoe just can't say no. Digby gets her, even though she barely gets herself. But is Digby a hero, or is his manic quest an indication of a desperate attempt to repair his broken family and exercise his own obsessive compulsive tendencies?                A romance where the leading man is decidedly unromantic, a crime novel where catching the crook isn't the only hook, a friendship story where they aren't even sure they like each other--this is a contemporary debut with razor-sharp dialogue, ridiculously funny action, and the most charismatic dynamic duo you've ever met.

Sherlock meets Veronica Mars meets Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in this story of a wisecracking girl who meets a weird but brilliant boy and their roller-coaster of a semester that’s one part awkward, three parts thrilling, and five parts awesome

My thoughts:

I haven't read a lot of mystery in the past, but this was amazing! the synopsis sounded intriguing to me, but the story itself is 1,000 times better! When I started reading it I was thinking this was going to be an okay read. I didn't think it would be too different from any other book I have read. I have never dreamed about a book. Never. So when I couldn't read without my eyes closing every two seconds, I decided I should sleep and finish it in the morning. I was maybe 50-60 pages in, not far. I had a dream about Digby and Zoe finding one of the missing girls dead. Once you get to know the characters, then you could kind of picture this dream I had.             Now that i have finished this book and have "lived" through this adventure with Digby and Zoe, I want to go back in. This is a fantastic novel that I would rate 5 Stars. I can't wait to share this book with my friends and with you.

This book debuts on August 4, 2015.

Paper books or ebooks?

Do you prefer paper/hardback books or do you prefer ebooks? I can see how anyone could go either way, but personally I like paper and hardpack better just because I feel like it's more personal. Here's my list of pro's and con's of both of them:

Paper/Hardback Books-

Pro's:

  • You can keep whatever you want between the pages
  • The author can sign this
  • Personal
  • Personalized by you and again the author
  • You can mark special pages however you want
  • You can share with your friends
Con's
  • It is heavier than an Ebook
  • It doesn't automatically keep your place
  • Can you think of anymore?
  • Takes up more space than the ebook

Ebooks:

Pro's
  • It can carry multiple books at a time
  • It's light for how many books it can carry around
  • You can highlight and quickly find what you are specifically looking for. (a quote, a chapter, etc.)
  • Can be used for more than just reading. (Meaning all types of bookish things!)
  • Automatically makes your place
  • Takes up less space
Con's
  • Can't be personalized
  • Can't be signed by the author
  • Does it go on your bookshelf? NO!
  • You have to mark the pages a specific way.
  • You can't share with your friends

It's a pretty close call on which is better, but I think physical books have won me over? Let me know in the comments which you prefer?

A physical book or an ebook?

Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan

Synopsis (taken from Amazon):

I’m the daughter of murdered parents.

I’m the friend of a dead girl.

I’m the lover of my enemy.

And I will have my revenge.

In the wake of the devastating destruction of the luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace knows the terrifying truth, and she’ll stop at nothing to avenge the murders of everyone she held dear. Even if it means taking down the boy she loves and possibly losing herself in the process.

Sharp and incisive, Daughter of Deep Silence by bestselling author Carrie Ryan is a deliciously smart revenge thriller that examines perceptions of identity, love, and the lengths to which one girl is willing to go when she thinks she has nothing to lose.

My rating: 3/5 stars

My feelings:

Over all I think that Daughter of Deep Silence is good, but I am not satisfied with the ending. The novel has this kind of creepy feel. Like if it was made into a movie there would be a whole lot of suspenseful music in it. Libby (or Frances since that's her real name) is sneaky and kind of stupid. I understand that she has problems confiding and trusting people, but other than what happened on the cruise ship, which you will find out at the beginning of the book, she has no other reason to not trust people.
The only reason I have given this book a three instead of something higher is because I was not satisfied with the ending. However, I would still recommend this book. To those you like just a little bit of mystery, romance and contemporary fiction. You can get Daughter of Deep Silence from Amazon, The Book Depository or Barnes and Noble.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige should be made into a movie. It has just the right amount of everything I love. It has magic, which I actually don't read a lot of books with magic. I don't have anything against magic, but for some reason I just haven't read a lot of it.
Anyway Dorothy Must Die is about a girl named Amy Gumm who is also swept up in a tornado and brought to Oz. This happens after Dorothy's version of Oz. But when Amy gets there, Oz is nothing like Dorothy left it in her version of Oz. This Oz is dreary. The magic is fading from the ground. To return Oz to what it once was Amy must:

1. Remove the Tin Woodman's heart
2. Steal the Scarecrow's brain
3. Take the Lion's courage
and...
Dorothy Must Die

I highly enjoyed this turn to Oz. This particular world has some amazing twists added in Dorothy Must Die. I highly recommend this book. There is some romance in it, but it is no where near the focus of the entire book. She must save the world, protect people she doesn't even know, and try to keep herself alive.

The Bigreadsreadathon

The bigreadsreadathon has been hosted by an account of instagram named manyfandomfaces. This readathon is 7 days long. it started July 5 at 11:59P.M. and it will end july 12 at 11;59 P.M. Everyone picked four books that they will try and get through by the end of the readathon.
The four categories with one book from each one are:
1. Favorite contemporary
2. A book with red on the cover
3. A book with pictures in it
4. A book by your favorite author

When I started this readathon I was already in the middle of another book. That book is Dorothy Must Die by Danielle paige. After I finished that book I moved onto the books I picked out for the readathon. The books I picked are:
1. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (DONE)
I have soo many favorite contemporary reads that this was difficult, but I highly enjoyed Anna and Stephanie writes amazing books. Contemporary books are hard to choose from because I have read a lot of them so far this year and I think they may just be favorites of all time.
2. A Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan (CURRENTLY READING)
I actually have this an ARC. I got the ARC at the RT book convention. I got it less than a month before it came out, but since I had been busy with school, I hadn't been able to read it. Daughter of Deep Silence is about a girl name Frances that is on a cruise ship that gets attacked. We follow Frances on her journey to expose the truth and get her revenge! Sounds great to me.
3. Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult
The copy of this book I have is actually a copy I borrowed from my friend. I started it about a year ago, but since I got side track from it, I figured this would be the best time to read it. Plus it has pictures and a girl who talks to fictional characters and they respond! That would be awesome if that happened to me.
4. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
I don't think Sarah Dessen is my favorite author, but I love what I've read from her so far. She writes contemporary romance and what she writes is very similar to Stephanie Perkins. As I said I love contemporary, so it was like love at first sight.

These are my books! Join a readathon. There are lots going on all the time. The booktube readathon starts in a month from tomorrow!

Happy Reading

June Book Haul

I got my book mail today from the Book Outlet! I am so excited to read the books that I got! This is the first time I have ordered from the Book Outlet and I love everything I got. BUT I just realized that one of the books that I got was a sequel to another book! So without further a due here are the books that I got:

Psi Another Day by D. R. Rosensteel
I don't actually know what this book is about, but I do know that it is a book about spies. I read I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill you by Ally Carter and I liked that, so I am excited to read this one. Spies are cool.
            L. A. Candy by Lauren Conrad
It's about some girls who get to be on a TV show. That's all I know about it, but the cover is beautiful. It's simple, but it has a bunch of candy hearts. Most of them are white, but there is one that stands out and it is pink. So a pretty and an interesting sounding story= a new book for me! (This is why I don't get to go to book stores very often. I have to use lots of SELF CONTROL not to buy the entire book store.)
The Beginning of After by Jennifer Castle
This is very similar to If I Stay by Gayle Foreman. I LOVE If I Stay and now I can't wait to read The Beinning of After. There are some major differences. By reading the back cover I know 1. That the main character, Laurel, doesn't have a boyfriend. 2. There is a boy in her life, but it's not one she likes and 3. She grows apart from her best friend. Again I am so excited to read this!!!
Sass and Serendipity by Jennifer Ziegler
This story is about two sisters who are nothing alike. I don't know much about this book, but on the front of the cover it states, "This fun and fresh retelling will leave you cheering, swooning, and hugging your sister." I have three and I don't go out of my way to hug them. Maybe this cute title and (hopefully) amazing book will change my ways.
            Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier
This is the final book in the Ruby Red trilogy. I knew when I got this that it was the third book in the Ruby Red series, but I've heard great things about this trilogy and it was super cheap. Now I just have to pick up the first two.
Heart of Glass by Sasha Gould
I did not know that this was a sequel to Cross my Heart. I don't remember seeing that this was a sequel, but now I have to go get the second one. It sounded sooooooo good. And NOW I can't read it till I get the first book.

This was June book haul and I can't wait for more months full of books!  I am really excited!!!
What books are you reading?
What books did you score in the month of June?

Reejecttion by Daniel Clausen

I have not finished this short story yet, but it is very interesting. I think that this was a self published book, which I don't normally read self published books, but  I decided to give this one a try. I highly enjoy his writing style. It sounds like he is talking to the read. The conversation tone, I would say, takes the cake. I haven't read many things with conversational tones and have that last quite a bit of what I have read. I love it.
Reejecttion is about rejection. There are some parts of this book that I am not fond of. For example, in parts where he is reviewing a book that I haven't read I can't relate to that part. I don't have any connection for that part of that book.
Would I suggest this book from the half of the book that I have already read?
I would recommend that you read Reejecttion. I would recommend that if you an aspiring writer to read this, but honestly everyone faces rejection, so this would benefit anyone.
Please note that this author has many free works that you can find. I found him on Library Thing. You can create an account and look him up there. He is also on goodreads. Please check him out!
